Sunset view of the University of Tampa campus in downtown Tampa (Florida) with the minarets of Plant Hall in the background. Today, Plant Hall is the main building of the University of Tampa, housing offices and classrooms. Plant Hall was opened in 1891 as the Tampa Bay Hotel by railroad entrepreneur Henry Plant, who also built the first railroad into the city of Tampa and the west (Gulf of Mexico) coast of Florida. During the Spanish-American War of 1898, the hotel and its grounds served as the operating headquarters for U.S. military operations in Cuba by the Rough Riders (1st US Volunteer Cavalry) led by Theodore Roosevelt. Plant Hall is a designated U.S. National Historic Landmark.
The image of Plant Hall below was created as a four-image panorama taken from the opposite bank of the Hillsborough River (foreground) which runs through downtown Tampa into Tampa Bay. All images in the panorama 1/5 sec at f/18, 50mm.
