Union Depot once serviced two railroads passing through Plant City, Florida. One of the two railroads is north to south route, the second railroad running east to west; the two railroads forming a 90-degree intersection next to the depot. Both rail lines run through the downtown center of Plant City.
Union Depot rail station was taken out of active operation in 1971 and is now included in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The main station building currently houses a railroad museum, the station platform a viewing area open to the public.
Plant City is a small city (population 35,000) located 20 miles east of Tampa and is the center for an agricultural area noted for producing strawberries during the winter season.
