About myself and my work

I've been a resident of the Tampa Bay (Florida) area since 1994 and lived in both Tampa and (currently) St Petersburg. Being somewhat the road warrior, my day-to-day travels take me extensively on both sides of Tampa Bay often with camera in hand.
My formal background is not in photography, having completed a 35-year career in IT (in various roles) and now retired. The technical background I gained in IT proved valuable in understanding aspects of digital photography including general photographic skills as well as quickly developing knowledge with post-processing tools, particularly Photoshop & Lightroom. I started my photography in 2003 using a small Olympus point and shoot before moving on to Nikon. Although my work includes both daylight and night subjects, I particularly enjoy the challenges and perspective of night photography.
From an artistic standpoint my work continues being a "work in progress". The world of digital photography is a blend of the technical and artistic. Many photographers in the digital world coming in one of two flavors - artists learning technical skills (entering the "geek" world) and "geeks" learning art. I place myself among the latter. My website came about when I evolved in photography to a point where creating a showcase of work became valuable.
