SUNSET BOULEVARD IN SAFETY HARBOR

6 Nov 2017

For many people, the idea of “clocks changing” during the fall season of the year means losing an hour of daylight as it gets dark earlier. In the world of night photography it’s an additional hour of night that’s otherwise unavailable during the rest of the year. This particular evening was my first opportunity this year to take advantage of the additional hour of darkness for night photography.

The image is a view of downtown Safety Harbor (Florida) looking directly up the length of Main Street from outside the main entrance of the Safety Harbor Spa and Resort. Taking this image involved a considerable amount of patience as there is a significant quantity of vehicle traffic moving through the intersection in the foreground of this picture plus the added consideration of the vehicles appearing in the picture being far enough away where their motion is not visible in the finished result (despite the fact they are moving toward and away from camera while the shutter is opened).
